Former MDC-T Bulawayo Provincial Administrator, Nkululeko Ndlovu, was allegedly briefly detained by police after he poured sugar in the engine of a brand new vehicle belonging to the party, over a wage dispute.

Ndlovu has been locked in a bitter dispute with the party since November after he was fired last year on allegations he mismanaged party funds that were meant to be used to pay polling agents from the July 31 harmonised elections.

Party sources who spoke to Radio Dialogue, confirmed Ndlovu was picked up by the police on Thursday morning after Bulawayo East National Assembly member Thabitha Khumalo reported the incident at the Bulawayo Central Police station.

"Nkululeko (Ndlovu) has a long standing dispute with the party and held on to the keys of one of the party vehicles. Yesterday, I understand that senior party officials wanted to use the vehicle for some party business but could not locate Ndlovu to collect the keys.

"After failing to locate Ndlovu, Honourable Khumalo is said to have towed the car to some garage in town so they could open it. The mechanics upon checking the vehicle discovered sugar and bolts inside the engine," said the source.

Another party source, close to the developments said Ndlovu's actions enraged Khumalo who reported the incident at the police.

"We understand that Ndlovu informed some people that he had placed a bomb in the car and this caused Khumalo to report the matter with the police. The police details managed to track down Ndlovu this morning (Thursday)," said the source.

Contacted for comment, Khumalo refused to comment.

"Go and ask the person who told you about the incident to give you more details. I will not comment," she said.

Bulawayo police spokesperson, Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo confirmed to Radio Dialogue that the case indeed had been reported to police but was withdrawn by the complainant.

"Khumalo has since withdrawn the case, as she's going out of the country," he said.

Khumalo will soon leave the country for Geneva, Switzerland where she has been invited to participate in the Inter-Parliamentary union assembly.

She  is the vice president of the IPU advisory group on HIV/Aids.
