Zesa recharge prophet explains 'miracle'

A SELF-STYLED prophet who claimed to miraculously pay off energy bills yesterday visited Chronicle to say: "It's all a big misunderstanding."
Dennis Hungwe made headlines after his congregants claimed he had performed the "miracle" during a Sunday service.
They claimed they arrived home to find that their pre-paid Zesa meters had been miraculously "juiced up".
But Hungwe, who had attracted the attentions of Zesa's loss control investigators, is offering a rather earthly explanation.
"I didn't perform any miracle regarding power recharge. I only prayed for congregants who didn't have electricity at home and when they got there, people came and gave them money to recharge," said Hungwe.
He insists that he did perform a miracle in which his followers had their mobile phones topped up with airtime.
"God performed airtime recharge miracles through me as he showed me recharge numbers on congregants' bodies. The sex of a church member's baby was also changed in the womb. I performed all those miracles."
Hungwe leads the small Tabernacle of Faith Church in Bulawayo's Nketa 6 suburb.
Claims by his followers he could pay energy bills had been ridiculed by Zimbabweans who took to the internet to debate the possibility.
