MDC legislator for Mpopoma-Pelandaba constituency, Bekithemba Nyathi, who has been caught in a web of allegations of turning the constituency office into a brothel, has scoffed at the accusations as the work of his detractors.

In recent weeks, Nyathi has been in the cross hairs of allegations of changing lady staffers in return for sexual favours at the office since he was elected to lead the constituency.

The youthful legislator said that he was not going to be distracted by what he termed purely concocted stories.

"In the first place, I do not run or operate an office in the constituency. The office is a community office that is run by people," Nyathi said.

He said a constituency development committee together with his advisory board operate from the offices on a daily basis and since his election, he spends most of his time in Harare on parliamentary business.

"It is ill advised for people to say I use the place as a brothel," Nyathi said.

He said people who claimed he was running a brothel should report the matter to the police rather than rushing to the media.

Last week, flyers denouncing his alleged sexual escapades and bearing the Woman of Zimbabwe Arise (Woza) logo were strewn all over the Bulawayo central business district.

Some of the flyers read: "Bekithemba Nyathi stop sexually abusing women in our constituency office" and "Stop using our constituency office as a brothel."

The flyers called for Nyathi to stop "pimping out our daughters and sisters to your friends" and cautioned the MP against neglecting his role and work for the constituency.

Part of the message on the pamphlets also read: "We don't want a Martin Gumbura in Bulawayo," in reference to the incarcerated Independent End Time RGM church leader.

The MP dismissed the fliers as the work of his enemies.

"I have since established that Woza was not involved in the flyers saga but I have realised that some of the bitter party members whom I beat last year during the primary elections are involved," he
explained.
