A BULAWAYO woman who is accusing her son of neglecting his own child, dragged him to court demanding $100 monthly maintenance.
Sithembiso Tshuma pleaded with the court to force her son Simbarashe Ncube to give her the money so she could take care of her eight-year-old grandchild.
"He is a conductor and goes to work every day. He can afford to pay maintenance for his child. I've been supporting his son since birth and he is not helping. I took care of him until he was an adult. It is not fair for him to expect me to take care of his child as well," said Tshuma.
She said her son was now married to another woman after ditching his son's mother. "His new wife does not like my grandchild and my son is neglecting him," she said.
Tshuma said her son once took the child to his house but the child ran away and came back to her house.
Ncube shot back: "She must bring my child back, I suspect she's the one influencing him to turn against me because my wife likes him. I cannot afford to pay maintenance and I have a family to take care of. I earn $50 per month so where will I get the money she is demanding?"
Magistrate Vimbai Mtukwa ordered Ncube to pay $20 monthly for the maintenance of his child with effect from the end of this month until the child is 18 years old.
