AN UNIDENTIFIED Bulawayo man was found dead in Selborne Park suburb yesterday morning and residents suspect he was killed by the cold weather and illness.
Temperatures dropped in Bulawayo on Sunday night with a chilly wintery wind sweeping across the city.
The man's body was found by the roadside with no visible injuries suggesting a struggle. He was putting on a blue T-shirt and white trousers. When Southern Eye arrived at the scene at around 7:30am, a number of shocked residents had gathered around the body before police took it away in a metallic coffin.
Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo confirmed the incident, but would not provide any details.
Some residents at the scene said the deceased man had been seen the previous night around the same spot and he appeared to have been in a drunken state and some form of pain.
"I saw him at around 8pm when I was leaving home yesterday (Sunday). He was standing as if in a lot of pain.
"I drove off only to find him lying on the ground when I returned home at around 11pm," said a resident who might have been the last one to see the man alive.
Another resident Thembekile Mthunzi said: "I saw him yesterday (Sunday) at 7pm stopping cars and he appeared drunk. When I later saw him, he had removed his trousers and was leaning on a wall."
Sibonginkosi Sibanda, who was also at the scene, said she passed the man in the morning at around 7:10am by the roadside covered with a brown cloth while going to drop off her children at school.
"As I approached Ibhalabhala Crescent going to drop off my children at school, there was a traffic jam, but I could not tell what people were staring at. I was shocked to see that it was a dead body covered in a brown cloth," Sibanda said.
This was the second unexplained death that occurred in the city in less than three days.
A Pumula South taxi driver was found dead in Famona on Saturday morning with his brains splattered after being shot in the head.
Knowledge Kuziyamisa (32) was found lying lifelessly by his employer and the police along Angus Road between 17th Avenue and Clyde Road in the suburb.
