A 17-YEAR-OLD boy who allegedly drugged a 15-year-old girl before raping her during a party attended by schoolchildren in October 2013 appeared before Bulawayo Regional Court magistrate Mark Dzira yesterday.

At the time of the alleged rape, the boy from Village 1 in Cement Side was in Form 4 while the girl from Emakhandeni was in Form 2 at Eastview High School in Mahatshula.

The girl claimed that the boy gave her some alcohol which she suspects was spiked with an unknown drug as she lost consciousness soon after consuming it. She said the boy then dragged her into a toilet where he raped her. When she regained consciousness, the girl said she saw a used condom next to her as well as some blood stains.

She joined other party goers in the house.

The boy, who was represented by lawyer Jabulani Mhlanga, denied the charge and Dzira remanded the matter to April 28 for continuation of trial.

Prosecutor Tinashe Dzipe alleged that the girl, who was a boarder at Eastview, approached a senior teacher with three other girls requesting for permission to attend the party on October 11 2013.

The senior teacher reportedly referred the four girls to the school's headmaster who allegedly instructed the senior teacher to issue them the exit passes.

The passes were processed and handed to the school matron who gave them to the four girls.

The girls then went to the party together and it was while at the venue that they met the boy who offered the 15-year-old girl some beer.

It was suspected that the boy slipped the drug into the beer he offered the girl to induce memory impairment.

The boy then allegedly took advantage of the girl's physical incapacitation and impaired judgment to drag her to the toilet and raped her.
