The 55th edition of the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair will Friday open to the public with President Robert Mugabe expected to officially open the event at 1300hrs.

This year's business market place, the biggest ever since the inception of the Trade Fair 55 years ago, is expected to draw thousands of visitors as early indicators showed interest from both traders and visitors.

Nineteen countries, including the United States and some from the European Union that recently lifted targeted sanctions on Zimbabwe, led their industries to Bulawayo for the event where 398 local companies are showcasing their goods and products in search of potential business.

The business exhibition segment of the ZITF, which ordinarily preceeds the public opening, closed yesterday and today companies and exhibitors at the event where China leads, occupying the biggest space, will trade with the visiting public.

Local authorities including Harare, Masvingo, Kwekwe and the host town, to name a few, and dozens of other private companies marketed themselves and clinched some deals.

"We believe if we put our innovations into implementation we will be able to get it right, we believe if it cannot be done then it must now be done," said an official from Econet wireless, Darlington Mandivenga, whose company is a true sign of what possibilities exist in Zimbabwe.

In his address Mugabe is expected to press with the government's ZimbabweAgenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (ZimAsset) which has become the guideline for the country's economic recovery.
