MDC-T vice-president Thokozani Khupe risks a revolt from subordinates in Bulawayo after she tried to block the provincial executive from suspending chairperson, Gorden Moyo.

Moyo, a Member of Parliament for Makokoba constituency, is believed to sympathise with a group led by secretary general Tendai Biti which wants to oust party leader Morgan Tsvangirai.

Tsvangirai's loyalists in the province convened a meeting last Saturday and passed a vote of no confidence in Moyo but efforts to kick him out were allegedly blocked by Khupe who is said to have caused a scene at the party's Bulawayo offices.

Saturday's meeting had been called to confirm the expulsion of Samuel Sipepa Nkomo (MP for Lobengula), Reggie Moyo (Luveve) and Bekithemba Nyathi (Pelandaba-Mpopoma) who attended the Harare meeting which suspended Tsvangirai, Khupe and members of the party's top brass.

Provincial organising secretary, Albert Mhlanga, who is also the MP for Pumula constituency told the Chronicle that Moyo would be suspended whether Khupe liked it or not adding another meeting would be held Friday to confirm the decision.

"We are going ahead with the suspensions as a province regardless of what Khupe says. We had actually concluded this matter during last week's meeting but she interfered with the proceedings," said Mhlanga.

"The provincial executive will have a meeting on Friday before we officially announce the suspensions. The decision will be final and Khupe will not do anything about it."

Khupe could not be reached for comment but observers said the spat could lead to a fallout between Khupe and Tsvangirai who wants all rebels out of the party.

Acting Bulawayo provincial spokesperson Swithern Chirowodza, who is aligned to Tsvangirai's faction said the MDC-T would not hesitate to expel rebellious members, regardless of their positions.

"We will not be confused by the shenanigans of the renewal team and those fence-sitters who are slowing down our onslaught. What I can promise the MDC-T comrades is that the axe of expulsion will fall hard on the necks of the infidels," he said.
