Bulawayo residents can now use telecash to pay their City of Bulawayo bills, in the same way as Harare residents have been able to pay their municipal bills.
To do so, they simply need to have a Telecel mobile phone line and be registered for telecash.
Soon after telecash was launched, Telecel and the City of Harare signed an agreement for the payment of municipal bills using telecash. Now Bulawayo residents can do the same.
That means they no longer have to queue to pay their rates and other municipal bills. They can pay them from the comfort of their home or office, or even on the bus as they are travelling to work.
All that a telecash subscriber has to do is dial *888# to access the telecash menu, select the ‘pay bill' option and then select City of Bulawayo.
The subscriber will then be asked to enter the account number on the City of Bulawayo bill and the amount to be paid.
As with all telecash transactions, the subscriber will be asked to enter his or her personal identification number (PIN) during the transaction.
Once payment has been made the subscriber will receive a unique transaction ID that can be quoted, like a receipt number, in the event of any query. The transaction will be registered almost instantaneously as a credit on the subscriber's account with the City of Bulawayo.
Subscribers also have the option of adding City of Bulawayo to their favourites list, so that the next time they want to make a bill payment to the City of Bulawayo they can simply select it from the list of favourites.
Telecash is Telecel's mobile money transfer service. It enables the subscriber to use a mobile phone as an electronic wallet, into which money can be deposited and withdrawn and from which payments can be made for bills and goods and services.
It is also possible to use it to transfer money to anyone with a mobile phone, regardless of the recipient's mobile phone network. Salaries can also be paid into a telecash account.
To register for telecash, all that is needed is to have a Telecel line and register at a telecash agent or with one of the telecash ambassadors who can be identified by their telecash regalia on the streets of Bulawayo and other cities and towns.
All Telecel shops are telecash agents, so too are all Bon Marche, OK Bazaars and TM supermarkets and all post offices. There are also numerous small agencies, which can be identified by the telecash logo and telecash agent number.
