Health hazard looms at Egodini
13 Jun 2014 at 19:54hrs | Views
A health hazard is looming at Esigodini Bus Terminus in Bulawayo after the local authority failed to collect refuse at the busy terminus for several weeks.
The news crew witnessed first hand litter being dumped in the open some of which is foodstuff that quickly attracts flies.
The vendors that operate at the bus terminus castigated the city council for failing to collect garbage despite collecting refuse levies from them.
Any disease outbreak at Egodini will have the potential to quickly spread throughout the city as it is the epicentre of the city where people board commuter buses to different suburbs.
The Bulawayo City Council has also struggled to collect refuse in residential areas and during the few times they do, they do not move from house to house but urge residents to pile up garbage at strategic positions.
The council requested that all questions be forwarded by email, but no response had yet been received after two days.
