HIGHLANDERS and national team midfielder Peter "Rio" Moyo has been ordered to pay $120 monthly in child support for his 10-month-old baby.
The footballer's former lover, Gracious Sibanda, who requested $100 last month, increased her claim to $300 yesterday as she told Bulawayo magistrate Victor Mpofu that "Rio" had agreed to the increment on Sunday.
The matter was supposed to have been heard last month, but the footballer disappeared before the hearing forcing Sibanda to appear alone, only for Moyo to resurface after court proceedings.
The footballer apparently summoned his guts and attended court yesterday.
"We agreed that he would pay $300 on Sunday. We were in the presence of his mother and if she was here today she was going to testify to that," said Sibanda.
The midfielder, however, denied agreeing to pay $300 and said he could only afford $120.
"I earn $500 per month, so I can't afford to pay $300. I never agreed to pay that amount and I can only afford to pay $120," said Moyo.
The magistrate queried Sibanda's claim saying that $300 was exorbitant.
"Your child is only 10-months-old, but you are claiming $300? If we let you continue at this rate, then that means when the child is 10, you will request $3,000."
Magistrate Mpofu ordered Moyo to pay $120 starting this month-end.
The "Bosso" playmaker is no stranger to the courts. In May, he was arrested for driving without a driver's licence while on his way to the team's training session.
