Bulawayo Provincial Affairs minister and Zanu-PF politburo member Eunice Sandi Moyo has revealed that President Robert Mugabe is looking up to the late Father Zimbabwe's son, Sibangilizwe, to fill his father's shoes of unifying people.

She said this on Monday during the 15th annivesary of the late Vice President Joshua Mqabuko Nyongolo Nkomo's death dubbed Dr Nkomo and Liberators' Day, held under the theme National Healing and Reconciliation at Stanley Square in Bulawayo.

"Today, I will tell you a secret that I have kept since last year. The president is looking at you (Sibangilizwe) as someone who will assist in unifying the people of Zimbabwe. He told me this on the 22nd of December last year when three things were commissioned, the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo International Airport, the renaming of Main Street to Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Street and the erection of the statue of Joshua Nkomo".

"After the commissioning, the president asked me to go with him to the State House where he asked me about Sibangilizwe. He asked where he was all this time saying he had not known about him," said Sandi Moyo.

Moyo said Mugabe spoke glowingly about Sibangilizwe.

"He said he delivered a speech about unity and he wished he stayed that way and follow things that were liked by his father," she said.

Sibangilizwe said July 1 had become an "unofficial" holiday for the people of Zimbabwe.

"Although this day has not been declared a national holiday, we have come to appreciate it as the unofficial holiday for us," he said.

The ZIPRA Veteran's Trust spokesperson  Buster Magwizi said government must consider declaring July 1 a a national public holiday

"We are asking for the immediate opening of Ekusileni Hospital and declaration of July 1 as a national public holiday," he said.

Joshua Nkomo mooted the idea of building Ekusileni Medical Hospital and though its construction was completed almost 15 years ago, it has now turned into a white elephant with endless promises of it opening.
