A Bulawayo woman allegedly poured a bucketful of urine on her husband as punishment for his failure to return home the previous day.

Kholisani Mpofu said his wife, Siphilisiwe Ncube, poured urine all over his body, including the face for not sleeping home.

Mpofu who appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Willard Moyo charged with physical abuse said that was the reason why he assaulted his wife who sustained internal injuries.

"This woman poured urine on my face and all over my body. The whole room was wet and the whole house smelled. I did not expect such a reaction from her so I beat her," said Mpofu in a matter in which Mufaro Mageza appeared for the state.

The court heard that on June 10 at around 5AM, Ncube asked her husband where he was coming from since he had left home the previous day without telling her.  Mpofu pleaded guilty and told the magistrate that he was angered by his wife's actions.

"Ncube was also accusing me of having extra marital affairs that's why I got angry. It got worse when she poured urine on me. I couldn't control myself that's why I beat her," Mpofu said.

Ncube was not called to testify but in a statement submitted to the court, she said this was not the first time her husband had assaulted her.

"This is not the first time my husband assaulted me. I have been trying not to drag the police in our marital issues but he still does not change his behaviour so he should pay. I just wanted to know where he was because he is my husband," she said.

The magistrate suspended sentence on condition that Mpofu does not commit a similar offence in the next five years.
