Government urged to fulfill late Mqabuko's wishes

As the nation remembers the death of the late Vice President, Dr. Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo on the 1st of July, government has been challenged to continue implementing programmes that fulfil his desires as well as ideas that he initiated.
Zanu-PF Acting Provincial Chairperson for Matebeleland North, Zwelitsha Masuku, said the late Father Zimbabwe will especially be remembered for being a visionary leader and for his desire to see the redistribution of land to create balance and empower the black majority that was at a disadvantage during the colonial regime.
He further called on the government to consider setting up the late Dr. Nkomo's statue not only in Harare and Bulawayo, but also in every town so as to afford every Zimbabwean a chance to see the image of their hero who brought them the freedom that the country enjoys today.
Zimbabwe War Veterans Association Chairperson for Matebeleland North Province, Jonathan Nkanyezi Sibanda, expressed concern that some of the projects named after him, such as Ekusileni Hospital in Bulawayo are still not complete years after construction started.
Affectionately known as "Umdala Wethu", the late Dr. Nkomo became Vice President following the signing of the Unity Accord between PF ZAPU and ZANU PF on the 22nd December in 1987.
He died on the 1st of July, 1999 in Harare at the age of 82 and is among the gallant sons of the soil buried to rest at the National Heroes Acre.
