The fire that rendered a family of four homeless at Kusile Flats last week has left Makokoba residents shaken.
The inferno completely destroyed the family's home and they lost all their valuable documents, property and clothes.
A neighbour has offered them temporal refuge in their home as they wait for well-wishers to aid with the renovations of the ruined family home.
A Makokoba Health Care Initiative Trust (MHCI) representative, Siphiwe Mhlanga, visited the family on Wednesday and said "the family's situation is very desperate."
Mhlanga said: "the flat is in need of a new roof, painting, plumbing, windows, in fact, there is need for complete renovations because the home was completely destroyed."
She also added that the family needs clothes, blankets, household goods and school uniforms for the nine year-old boy who is part of the affected family.
According to Mhlanga, donations have already started creeping in from neighbours and the community at large in the form of food and cooking utensils.
"On behalf of the family, Makokoba Health Care Initiative MHCI and Makhox Brand are appealing for well-wishers to come forward with donations in both cash and kind to help the family. The clothes for the two women size 38, shoes sizes 4 and 6. Size 32 trousers for their male sibling and size 6 for shoes. For the nine year-old boy size 1 shoes, size 26 khakhi uniforms, grey jersey, blue and yellow-stripped tracksuit, school bag and stationery," said Mhlanga.
