Obert Mpofu dumps SK Moyo

Transport minister Obert Mpofu has made a U-turn in his support for Zanu PF national chairman Simon Khaya Moyo  for the vice presidency saying the race should be opel for eveeyone.

Mpofu last month said he hoped Khaya Moyo lå.der the post replacing the late John Nkomo who died in January last year.

Mpofu however changed his mind this week saying anyone should contest the post.

He said the template used that a national chairman was automatically elevated to the vice presidency was undemocratic.

Mpofu and Khaya Moyo have had an on and off relationship and at one point traded insults at a politburo meeting in front of President Robert Mugabe.

The two Zanu PF senior leaders have for years been iinvolved in a battle to control party structures in Matabeleland.

"This could signal renewed fighting between the two senior politicians," said a source within Zanu PF.

"Mpofu by nature has always been unpredictable, he moves from one faction to the other as long as it suits him."
