A DOMESTIC worker is on the run after she allegedly took advantage of her employer's absence and stole $50,000 from her Khumalo home.

Ntando Dube vanished after giving her two male friends $20,000 from the loot.  Her friends used part of the money to buy vehicles.

Dube allegedly committed the crime when her employer Linda Dhewa who works at a hotel in Masvingo, was not home. The maid whose age was not given is on the run, but her friends' luck ran out as they were arrested after a series of investigations.

The two men, Curtis Nkomo and Donald Nkomo who are both aged 20 and are Dhewa's neighbours took $8,000 from the $20,000 they were given and bought vehicles. Police only recovered $4, 000 from them.

Appearing before magistrate Sibongile Msipa yesterday, the two pleaded not guilty to the charge of knowingly receiving stolen property.

"I was assaulted by police officers while I was in holding cells," said Curtis before begging the magistrate to grant them bail.

Donald also said he had been assaulted by the police.

The magistrate granted each of them $50 bail.

They are scheduled to appear in court today for continuation of trial.

The state case led by Caroline Matanga is that on November, 28 last year, Dube broke into Dhewa's house and stole $50, 000.

On a date unknown to the prosecutor but during the month of December, Curtis and Donald received cash amounting to $20,000 from Dube and they accepted it knowing that it was stolen.

"Curtis bought a Honda Fit vehicle worth $4, 000 which he later sold to Ntuthuko Sigadula who is a car breaker working from Kelvin North in Bulawayo. Donald also bought a Honda Fit worth $4, 000 from a man called Ndandazi Joseph," said Matanga.
