TWO Bulawayo men allegedly fatally assaulted their friend following a misunderstanding that arose while they were under the influence of alcohol.
Tendai Mpagamuri, 21, and Mbusi Dakamela, 19, of Cowdray Park, appeared before magistrate Sibongile Msipa yesterday facing murder charges.
The two, through their lawyer Tungamirayi Nyengera of Shenje and Company legal practitioners, pleaded not guilty to the charges and were remanded to August 21.
Prosecuting, Tafadzwa Mutsambiwa told the court how the pair met four of their friends including their alleged victim, Muziwenkosi Ncube, and started drinking whisky.
"On July 16 at about 5PM Muziwenkosi Ncube was in the company of Nkosivumile Ncube, Nzuzo Mlotshwa and Bongani Ngwenya and they were drinking a bottle of Gold Blend whisky when they met Tendai Mpagamuri and Mbusi Dakamela at a bus stop in Cowdray Park. The two accused joined them and they started drinking together," he said.
Mutsambiwa said Dakamela snatched the bottle of whisky from Mlotshwa's hands resulting in a brawl amongst the group.
"The group started walking together, drinking the alcohol then a misunderstanding arose when Dakamela grabbed the bottle from Mlotshwa. Dakamela then poured some of the whisky on the ground and drank some straight from the bottle. Dakamela and Mpagamuri then started fighting with the other men," said the prosecutor.
The court also heard that Dakamela fled from the scene, leaving Mpagamuri fighting.
During the scuffle, Muziwenkosi fell down and lost consciousness. He, however, recovered but later collapsed again on his way home.
He was taken by an ambulance to Mpilo Central Hospital where he was pronounced dead on admission.
The post-mortem revealed that Muziwenkosi died due to subdural haematoma - clotting of blood, an injury to the head and assault.
