Welshman Ncube-led MDC blasts farm invasions

The MDC led by Welshman Ncube last week lashed out at Zanu-PF for its renewed invasions of black-owned farms.
This follows the recent invasion of Zapu president Dumiso Dabengwa"s Rudy Farm in Umguza district by Zanu-PF youths.
The Bulawayo City Council-owned Mazwi Sanctuary was last week also grabbed by Zanu-PF youths, who have since laid siege to the land.
Nhlanhla Dube the smaller MDC national spokesperson, claimed the latest invasions in Matabeleland were part of Zanu-PF's grand plan to marginalise the region.
"We are however, shocked at the party's audacity to invade the farm of a national liberation hero of the status of Dabengwa and more so, barely a week before the annual Heroes commemorations," Dube said.
"If this is Zanu-PF's way of honouring the country's liberation war heroes and heroines, dead and living, then it has once again been brought to the attention of Zimbabweans that the only heroes they will honour are Zanu-PF heroes."
Dube said the latest action was an insult to a man who helped to liberate Zimbabwe from the shackles of white minority rule. He said besides deserving respect because of his war exploits as a Zipra intelligence supremo, Dabengwa bought the farm unlike other Zanu-PF chefs who grabbed their choice farms from white commercial farmers.
"And even more infuriating is the lackadaisical attitude of the State-sponsored police in dealing with these social miscreants belonging to Zanu-PF," Dube said.
"Where does Mugabe's party draw the line if Zanu-PF has the guts to shame, scorn and dehumanise a liberation war hero of Dabengwa"s calibre?"
He said his party was appalled by the impunity and free reign that Zanu-PF members are being given over other people's land.
"It is time Zanu-PF realised that Zimbabwean land is not Zanu-PF land and as such any Zimbabwean regardless of party affiliation, race or ethnic background has a right to own land," Dube said.
"We therefore condemn this barbaric act with the contempt it deserves and demand that the Zanu-PF 'Red Guards' who broke into Dabengwa's farm be brought to book."
However, while this entire disturbance is taking place, Zanu-PF has since distanced itself from the invasions, claiming they were not authorised.
