Four people, three graduate drivers and their instructor, died on Sunday afternoon in Bulawayo after they were involved in a head on collision with another car travelling in the opposite direction in what eyewitnesses said was human error.

Anesu Kambanje, the owner of Anesu Driving School in the city, and two of his students died on the spot while the third student died in transit to hospital when their Toyota Vitz car collided with a Botswana registered Toyota Condor car.

"The driver of the Condor escaped with minor injuries. Three people died on the spot, the other one was rushed to hospital and died on the way," said one of the people who witnessed the accident that occurred in broad daylight.

He said the driving school vehicle was overtaking another vehicle when the accident occurred at a bend between Bellevue Shopping Centre and Emganwini High Density suburb along the Plumtree Road.

Kambanje, whose wife wept uncontrollably at the scene, is one of the many driving instructors who take their students to Plumtree town where it is relatively easier to get licences due to low traffic.

When news crew arrived at the scene, police had loaded the bodies of Kambanje and two of his students onto their truck.
