BCC sewer system rehabilitation begins

The Bulawayo City Council (BCC) will, starting this week, rehabilitate its sewer system.
Adverts were flighted in newspapers last week advising residents that repairs would be undertaken at the sewer outfalls in Magwegwe, Amaswazi and the Davis Granite in Sizinda, and is expected to be completed by August 22 this year.
The newspaper ads also said the project would be carried out under the auspices of Bulawayo Water and Sanitation Emergency Response (Bowser) with Dabane Trust and World Vision (Zimbabwe) providing technical assistance.
The city council advised that the project will consist of the replacement of damaged sections of the pipes, repair and replacement of reinforced concrete columns.
During this period, the city of Bulawayo will divert flow of the sewer from the upstream to facilitate the rehabilitation of the sewer pipes advised the city council.
The project would include refurbishment of pump houses, clearing 45 sand traps and clearing of blockages. It will also include removal of excrement from sites for appropriate disposal and we will clear blockages through mechanical jetting and repair 800m of main outfall pipes.
The project is being funded by the Australian government through the Aus Aid programme.
