A 55-year-old police officer from Tshabalala Police Station allegedly abused his wife's sisters' trust and repeatedly raped their three teenage daughters that had been entrusted to his care.
Paul Haisosvi, was hauled before Western Commonage provincial magistrate Willard Maphios Moyo facing charges of raping the girls aged 11, 14 and 17 over a period of two years.
He was represented by lawyer Costa Dube and pleaded not guilty to all three counts.
Haisosvi would allegedly leave his wife sleeping in bed and sneak out to abuse the children who slept on the floor in his one-roomed house.
The court heard that the abuse started in 2012 and was only reported in March this year.
Haisosvi was granted $100 bail and remanded to October 3 pending his trial.
The prosecutor, Kingstone Mkanganwi, said: "Haisosvi stayed with his nieces who are children to his wife's siblings. He had sexual intercourse with all of them without their consent at Tshabalala Police Station," he said.
Haisosvi said the children were lying.
"These are spirits that are following me. Whoever is doing this is very good at his work. I didn't sleep
with any of these girls but I helped them, sheltered them and gave them food
and this is how they thank me," he said.
The magistrate granted him bail on condition that he did not tamper with witnesses.
