FOUR armed robbers reportedly smashed open the strongroom at Mzilikazi High School with a suspected dynamite last Thursday and got away with an empty cash box and two athletics starting pistols.

The robbers were reportedly wearing balaclavas, armed with axes and knobkerries.

They reportedly pounced on Mzilikazi High School at 2am on Thursday and tied two security guards with a rope and stuffed pieces of cloth in their mouths. After that they allegedly force-marched them to the storeroom where they locked them inside.

Speaking to B-Metro, the headmaster of Mzilikazi High School, Bhekokuhle Dube said: "The four armed robbers pounced on our school early in the morning on Thursday. Fortunately there was no money in the cash box. They took two starting pistols and an empty cash box that was locked. They latter dumped the cash box near United College of Education after failing to open it with an explosive suspected to be a dynamite," said Dube.

Dube added: "We thank God because the robbers didn't harm our security guards but they just tied them with ropes and locked them inside the storeroom."

Dube heaped praises on the police for a swift response at their time of need. "I would like to thank the police for a quick response and I believe the robbers will be arrested," said Dube.
