Bloody brawl over a prostitute

A BAR room brawl over a prostitute between a former police officer and a patron turned bloody after the two men cut each other up with broken bottles.
The ex-cop, Chrispen Jarada, 31, could not stomach losing out on the services of the woman, who was not named in court, to Philiso Dube, 43.
He set upon Dube with a beer bottle, sparking a no-holds-barred pub fight that sent other patrons scurrying for cover at the Lounge Bar in Bulawayo's city centre.
When the dust settled, both men were bleeding from deep gashes on their faces and had to be stretchered to hospital.
Jarada appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Tawanda Muchemwa facing assault charges. He was remanded out of custody to September 29 for trial after pleading not guilty.
Magistrate Muchemwa ordered the state to investigate further as both parties were injured, indicating they could have been involved in public fighting.
Prosecuting, Busani Moyo told the court that Dube met the woman at The Lounge on Wednesday and started drinking beer with her.
"On September 24, at about 10PM, Dube was in the company of his younger brother, Bongani, drinking beer at The Lounge Bar along Robert Mugabe Way.
"The two met a woman and started drinking with her," he said.
Moyo said the woman left Dube and went to Jarada and the two spent an hour together but failed to reach an agreement over her "services."
He said the woman left Jarada but as she went past Dube, the latter held her by the hand saying he was still interested in her.
The action infuriated Jarada who suddenly appeared and grabbed the woman before throwing a bottle at Dube.
"He then came back to Dube holding a full beer bottle and hit him on the right side of his face with it. Dube, who was wearing glasses, fell to the ground and started looking for them.
"He sustained a deep cut from which he bled profusely," the court heard.
Jarada also suffered a deep cut on his right hand and on the forehead in the process.
Both parties were referred to hospital and medical reports were obtained.
