AN alleged sodomiser's mission to abuse street kids in Bulawayo came to a violent end when a mob took matters into their own hands before taking him to the police.
The man was apprehended after a 10-year-old street kid identified him in the city centre. Elton Ngwenya appeared in court early this week and was remanded in custody to 6 October. One of the men who apprehended him, Frank Dube told B-Metro how the mission was executed.
Dube said the street kid who is now living with a guardian identified the man in the city centre after he had told his family of the abuse he and his friends suffered at the hands of the man.
Having heard that their child was subjected to lewd sex acts - the family decided to hunt for Ngwenya and was joined by some neighbours who included Dube.
"We searched for him. But before we could track him we were made aware of his alleged violent nature," added Dube.
Dube said they waylaid him along an ally, tackled him and then force-matched him to a police station.
Ngwenya appeared in court on Monday facing charges of aggravated indecent assault. He was charged with abusing four street kids.
In his statement, the ten year-old from Mzilikazi said Ngwenya had taken the boys from Chicken Inn before leading them to his home in the city centre.
"Ngwenya started sodomising the four of us and threatened to assault us if we revealed the matter to anyone. This continued for days," he said.
Prosecutor Dennmore Kasenza told the court that sometime this year, Ngwenya took the boy with his three friends from the Chicken Inn fast-food outlet on Robert Mugabe Way and 9th Avenue where they were staying as street kids and went with them to his flat in the city centre. He offered the boys accommodation and during their stay, Ngwenya started engaging in sex with the boys.
