A 44-YEAR-OLD Tshabalala man, who allegedly defrauded Portland Holdings of about $350,000, claimed his church forced him to hand himself over to police despite being innocent.

But Ndobona Moyo, who is a cashier at the company, did not disclose the name of the church which convinced him to hand himself to the police after he was alleged to have misappropriated a total of $349,366.

According to the State case on a date unknown but between October 1, 2013 and June 30, 2014, Moyo, being the cashier and the custodian of petty cash, stole the money amounting to $349,366 from Portland Holdings.

He allegedly went on to raise fictitious petty cash expenses without supporting documents and back-posted them into the company's computer system to cover up for the offence. Internal investigations were carried out leading to the discovery of the offence.

It is alleged that Moyo failed to produce supporting documents. The State also claims that as a result of the offence, the company suffered an actual prejudice of $349,366 and nothing was been recovered

He appeared before a Bulawayo court charged with fraud. He was remanded on $500 bail to October 21.
