'Us'phatheleni' shot dead

A 30-year-old foreign currency dealer popularly known as 'us'phatheleni' was on Sunday night short dead by two unknown assailants who attacked him at his house in the new medium-density suburb of Beitbridge, according to a Chronicle report.

The incident occurred at around 8pm when the now deceased Rodwin Chimbidzikai had just parked his Toyota Verossa at the gate of his house.

Matabeleland South police spokesman Inspector Philisani Ndebele said the suspects went away with 2 000 rand and a cellphone.

He said when Chimbidzikai alighted from the car and opened the gate, he was approached by two men who were armed with a pistol.

Police reports state that the wife saw the two assailants as she opened the door to the house but she ran and hid at the back of the house, leaving the husband with the two unknown assailants.

The now deceased was shot once in the head and died instantly.

Police said after shooting the man, the suspects went into the house where they stole R2 000 and a cellphone, before disappearing into darkness. He said the wife later went to check on the husband and found him lying in blood before reporting the matter to the police.

No arrests have been made according to law enforcers but they have since launched intensive patrols on the country's major high ways
