BULAWAYO - A NKULUMANE woman landed herself in murky waters after she allegedly inserted her fingers in her niece's private part.

The woman (23) who was then (18) and cannot be named to protect the identity of the girl (11) who was then (6), denied the charge of indecently assaulting the girl, when she appeared before a Bulawayo Court.

The magistrate remanded her in custody to October 17 for trial.

The court heard that on September 15 2009 at around 1pm, the girl visited her paternal grandmother, but her mother was unaware of her whereabouts, as she had not been informed of the visit.

At around 2pm the girl's mother went to the complainant's grandmother in Nkulumane to check if she was there.

The grandmother told the girl's mother that her daughter was in the house and refused to let her go with her mother.

This did not go well with the complainant's mother, who then rushed to the police to report the case.

On September 16 the complainant's mother and her grandmother and other relatives met at Nkulumane police to talk about the case.

The grandmother told the Police Station that the girl was complaining of her painful private parts. The girl was taken to Mpilo Central Hospital and a medical report obtained showed that penetration had occurred in her.

When the girl was interviewed by police, it was established that her paternal aunt inserted her finger into her private parts.

The aunt was arrested.
