The First Lady, Dr Grace Mugabe says lack of vision and inefficiency of the political leadership in Bulawayo has cost the party and contributed to the decline in service delivery in the city.
Speaking during the her 8th 'Meet the People Rally' at Amazulu sports grounds in Bulawayo, Dr Mugabe attributed the poor party's performance in the previous election to lack of effective political leadership, saying the leadership is engrossed in pursuing selfish political ambitions at the expense of the people.
She castigated some leaders, who are using the media to declare their interest in the Vice Presidency left vacant after the death of Landa John Nkomo two years ago, saying they are fanning divisions within the party.
"You all want to be individuals. Dr Nkomo (Late Vice President) is surely not happy because we are undoing what he did. The Bulawayo leadership will really trouble us. Honestly if we had unity of purpose we wouldn't be having these five names being peddled around for the Vice Presidency post," said Dr Mugabe.
She said the country's leaders will be chosen on merit and capability to lead the party and not on seniority.
She further challenged leaders in the Matabeleland region to work for the improvement of the lives of people in line with the economic blueprint, ZimAsset.
Grace Mugabe has so far held rallies in Chinhoyi (Mashonaland West), Gweru (Midlands), Masvingo, Harare, Mutare (Manicaland), Gwanda (Matabeleland South), Lupane (Matabeleland North) and now Bulawayo, which were all attended by thousands of people.
Her main message has been centred on unity, empowerment and development.
