Former parliamentary speaker and MDC-T national chairperson Lovemore Moyo, was on Sunday involved in a horrific crash that left him battling for his life at a hospital in Bulawayo.
According to party information chief Douglas Mwonzora, Moyo was travelling from Harare where he attended a stormy national executive committee meeting ahead of the opposition MDC-T's elective congress set for October 30.
"He sustained critical head injuries and is admitted at United Bulawayo Hospitals. They say he will be fine, he is critical but in a stable condition. His aide sustained a broken leg and ribs while his driver sustained a broken leg," said Mwonzora.
It was not clear as of last night what exactly caused the accident.
Moyo served as Matobo North legislator since 2000 when the seat was won by Zanu-PF in a clean sweep during last year's harmonised poll at which the MDC-T was humiliated by the former guerrilla movement.
Following the abortive 2008 elections, whose first round was won by Tsvangirai albeit inconclusively, Moyo was elected Speaker of the National Assembly. However his election was challenged by then independent legislator for Tsholotsho, Jonathan Moyo, who now serves as Information minister, citing irregularities.
A re-run was ordered by the Supreme Court, with Moyo coming head to head with his Zanu-PF namesake and national chairperson Simon Khaya-Moyo.
The then Matobo North lawmaker prevailed amid claims of attempted vote-buying and selling out by Zanu-PF MPs after the MDC-T national chairperson won with votes over and above his party's representation in the legislature.
His reign came to an end after the conclusion of the inclusive government, born out of the Global Political Agreement, sponsored by regional power bloc Sadc.
