AN ESTRANGED couple that had gone to court for their maintenance hearing was embarrassed when an irate magistrate lashed out at them for failing to convince their 14year old delinquent son to go to school.
Magistrate Tinashe Tashaya reprimanded Thembelani Moyo and Glen Moyo during their after they indicated that their eldest child was no longer attending school because he refused to go to school and withdrew on his own.

Thembelani had brought Moyo, a taxi driver, to the Maintenance Court demanding $100 for their three children.

Thembelani had indicated that she needed the money to start a business but the magistrate turned down her request saying that maintenance money should cater for the needs of the children.

When she was asked how she came to that amount she only pointed out that she needed the money to buy food and clothing for the children. She did not include school fees as part of the list which infuriated the magistrate.

"What kind of parents are you? So you didn't try hard or find other measures to persuade your own 14-year old child to go to school?" the magistrate asked.

Thembelani said they tried to discipline their child and even took him to the police but he still refused to go to school.
