Gift Banda's ex-girlfriend faces arrest

A Bulawayo Court has issued a warrant of arrest for the deputy mayor Gift Banda's ex-lover for contempt of court after she failed to attend a maintenance hearing yesterday.

 Earlier on it was Banda, who was charged with contempt of court after he defaulted paying maintenance towards his child he sired with Kholiwe Sitshoni who now faces arrest.

Banda whose maintenance debt amounts to $2 400, appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Tawanda Muchemwa when the case was expected to be heard, but Sitshoni, who is believed to have gone to South Africa, was in no show at the courts prompting the court to immediately issue a warrant of arrest.

Meanwhile the presiding magistrate ruled that Banda be placed off remand pending the arrest of the child's mother, with the case now expected to proceed by way of summons.
