Mugabe caps 1,986 NUST graduates

President Robert Mugabe, who is also the Chancellor of National University of Science and Technology (NUST) has capped 1 986 graduands at the institution.

First to be honoured was the late Vice President Landa John Nkomo, who was post-humously honoured with a doctor of philosophy degree for his contribution to the liberation and development of the country.

His son Jabulani Nkomo, who received the award on behalf of the family, thanked President Mugabe for the honour bestowed on his father.

In his address at the 20th graduation, NUST Vice Chancellor Professor Lindela Ndlovu spoke of the institution's contribution to the county's socio-economic development in line with the ZIM ASSET blue print.

Professor Ndlovu said the university has embarked on a number of projects among them mineral beneficiation, construction of a solar power plant to service the campus, and an electronic engineering project in the communication sector under a joint venture with a local telecommunication concern.

He challenged the graduates to create employment through innovative means and spearhead the revival of the economy.
