A BULAWAYO man died at Mpilo Central Hospital four days after attempting to commit suicide by hanging two weeks ago.
Zibusiso Moyo, 23, of Emakhandeni suburb, died on Tuesday at around 4PM as a result of chest, neck pains and asphyxia after battling for his life for close to four days.
He is said to have been engaged in an undisclosed misunderstanding with his wife.
Moyo's grandmother, only identified as MaNgwenya, told Chronicle yesterday that she was shocked by her grandson's death.
She said Moyo was showing signs of recovery from injuries sustained when neighbours saved him from death by hanging by cutting the rope from his neck.
"I visited Zibusiso on Monday and he was in a stable condition. He was out of the Intensive Care Unit and in Ward B5 because his condition was getting better. I never suspected that he would die," narrated MaNgwenya sobbing.
It is allegedly that Moyo visited his grandmother on Thursday afternoon after having a misunderstanding with his wife over yet an undisclosed matter.
Moyo spent the whole day with his grandmother and at around 10PM went out on the pretext of seeing his old friend.
He never returned again only to be discovered by his younger brother, Xolisani Moyo, hanging from a tree at the back of the house.
"Zibusiso was staying with his wife at a house near Emakhadeni Beer hall but on that particular day he decided to visit me. At around 1AM while we were asleep, his younger brother heard some noise. The brother opened the curtain and that is when he saw Zibusiso hanging from a tree," said the grandmother.
MaNgwenya said Xolisani informed her about the incident and later alerted neighbours who rescued his grandson.
"When the rope was cut my grandson was not yet dead and was taken to Mpilo Hospital where he was admitted into the Intensive Care Unit," she said.
Zibusiso is expected to be buried today.
He is survived by a child and wife.
Last week, a man from the same suburb allegedly hanged himself at his best friend's house after his mother banned him from bringing girlfriends home.
