FORMER Highlanders star Mbuso Mandiopera allegedly struck a 62-year-old man with a bottle at a Bulawayo night club.
Mandiopera, 29, who resides in Pumula East, appeared before magistrate Sibongile Msipa charged with assault following the attack on Peter Ndlovu.
The former Bosso star, who claimed he now plays for United Stars but did not divulge where the team is based, pleaded guilty.
Magistrate Msipa fined him $100 (or 30 days in prison) if he fails to pay the fine.
"Your Worship, what happened is that when I was at the bar someone poured alcohol on me.
I didn't see who had done that so I assaulted the wrong person. I didn't know that I injured him so badly," Mandiopera said.
Prosecuting, Taurai Hondoyemoto told the court that on November 23 at around 2AM, Ndlovu was struck with a bottle on the right eye while he was drinking at La Gondola pub along Robert Mugabe Way.
"The complainant does not know why the accused assaulted him since he never talked to him and also that he has not met him before. Ndlovu sustained a cut above the right eye and sought medical attention at UBH," Hondoyemoto said.
The latest case comes a month after Highlanders midfielder Mthulisi Maphosa was sentenced to perform 75 hours of community service at ZRP Western Commonage after he savagely assaulted his girlfriend's friend and her boyfriend.
