Gorden Moyo flees angry crowd

MAKOKOBA legislator Mr Gorden Moyo was last week allegedly sent scurrying for cover, with residents reportedly accusing him of neglecting them ever since he was elected to represent the constituency.
Mr Moyo had visited the suburb to attend the funeral wake of a 17-year-old Bruce Mashoko, who was allegedly murdered by a group of boys in an alleged love triangle.

The legislator, who is part of the MDC renewal team, was elected after MDC-T deputy president Ms Thokozani Khupe relinquished the seat, opting to get into Parliament under the women's quota.

However, Mr Moyo has hit back claiming these were the works of his political enemies which he would not read much into.

According to impeccable sources, the legislator had reportedly made a surprise appearance at the funeral wake and during his address had offered to mediate between the families of the victim and the perpetrators.

"When the MC introduced him there were a few jeers but things turned nasty during his address when people started openly accusing him of abandoning them after the elections and trying to use the funeral wake to gain unfair political mileage."His aides and supporters tried to calm things but the residents would have none of that and some were demanding that he leaves immediately, while a small group had gathered outside the house demanding to meet him.

One of his advisers then whispered something to him leading him to abruptly leave the venue. However, some of the youths followed him and pelted his vehicle with stones while he sped off," said the source.

Residents interviewed also confirmed the incident alleging that Mr Moyo had last visited the suburb during a Christmas party held last year on 13 December.

"The only other time he was here was for their Orange Day that was held at Stanley square and that was not for the residents but for his Renewal Party and he did not even care to come to the suburb.

"We honestly miss Ms Khupe because she would always make it a point to meet the people frequently. It is so unfair that we elect someone to represent us but he now does not want to engage with us. We read in the newspapers that he is part of the Renewal Team but he never at any day came to us to tell us what is really going on," said a resident who identified himself as Mr Ben Ncube.

Contacted for comment, Mr Moyo laughed off the matter saying whoever felt he was not doing his job as an MP was dreaming.

"The person saying that is clearly dreaming. Go back to Makokoba and talk to the right people who will tell you that MP Moyo is currently paying for 300 residents' funeral policy, 30 households have started chicken projects through myself and last week Tuesday 300 residents got seed maize.

"I will not comment on whether or not I was chased away because it is just not possible. The person making all those allegations is from these other political parties that do not want to participate in the MP's projects," said Mr Moyo before hanging up his mobile phone.
