THREE women were allegedly bashed on their buttocks with wooden brooms by four security guards after one of them stole two pairs of shoes and hid them between her thighs.
Joshua Mabuya, 22, of Famona, Colin Simaici, 24, of Nkulumane 12, Thabani Ncube, 43, of Nketa 8 and Princess Ncube, 21, of Nketa 7 yesterday appeared before Bulawayo provincial magistrate Sibongile Msipa facing three counts of assault.
The quartet pleaded guilty and each guard was ordered to pay a $100 fine or spend 30 days in prison.
In their defence, they all said they assaulted Sithembiso Ndlovu, 31, of Pumula South, Sukoluhle Moyo, 29 and Mercy Moyo, 31, both of Entumbane because they caught them stealing seven pairs of shoes from Tirihorn enterprises situated at number 61 Herbert Chitepo street in Bulawayo.
Prosecuting, Charles Danda told the court that on November 27, Ndlovu, Moyo and Sukoluhle entered Tirihorn enterprises at around 3.30 PM.
"Ndlovu was spotted by Mabuya, Simaici, Ncube and Princess taking two pairs of shoes and hiding them under her skirt between her thighs," said Danda.
The quartet bundled Ndlovu, Moyo and Sukoluhle into a room inside the shop where they assaulted them several times on their buttocks and thighs with wooden brooms.
The court heard that the three women sustained swollen buttocks and thighs.
They were taken to the United Bulawayo Hospital for treatment.
