'Short circuit caused Bulawayo power cuts'

The blackout that plunged the city centre into darkness since Thursday was caused by a short circuit on underground cables after water seeped through, Zesa Holdings (Zesa) has said.

Power was lost throughout the city on Thursday after a heavy downpour.

Although in some parts, electricity was restored after a few hours, other areas remained in darkness.

There was gridlock in the city as traffic lights became non-functional and restaurant and butcheries closed shop.

Other businesses resorted to generators.
