A Lupane kombi driver allegedly teamed up with two touts and beat to death a man he found in bed with his wife.

The trio allegedly dumped the body on the Lupane-Bulawayo highway to make it look like he had been involved in a hit and run accident.

Nkosana Getshu on Thursday last week allegedly hatched a plan to ambush Solomon Moyo after his son told him Moyo was sleeping with his wife.

Villagers said Getshu enlisted the help of Thembelani Ngwenya and another tout only identified as Musa to set a trap.

They said the trio caught Moyo red-handed in the act with Urgent Ndlovu.

Getshu and Ngwenya have since been arrested while Musa is on the run.

The villagers said police found Moyo's body lying on the roadside in Bubi village under Chief Mabikwa along the Lupane-Bulawayo highway.

"Moyo had been in a relationship with Getshu's wife for a long time. He would even stay at Getshu's homestead when Getshu was away.

"Last week, Getshu received a call from his 17-year-old son who told him that his step-mum was in the habit of bringing a man to their homestead. He told his father that Moyo was relaxed at their homestead having a nice time with Ndlovu," said Bhekisani Sibanda, one of the villagers.

He said: "Getshu teamed up with Ngwenya and Musa and drove to the village. They left their kombi at a distance from the homestead in the middle of the night."

Sibanda added that when they arrived at the homestead, they found Ndlovu and her boyfriend having sex in Getshu's bedroom.

He said they tied the lovers' hands and feet with a rope and threatened to kill them.

"The three tortured Ndlovu and Moyo, hitting them with axe handles, punching and kicking them. They stopped when Moyo fell unconscious. Ndlovu sustained serious injuries following the assault and couldn't walk properly."

Sibanda said when they realised that Moyo was not moving they carried him to their vehicle and drove close to the highway where they left him for dead before driving to St Lukes Hospital where they dumped Ndlovu at about 4AM," said Sibanda.

He said a report was made to the police that a man was found dead and his body was taken to the mortuary while Ndlovu told hospital staff that she had been assaulted by her husband.

Police sources said Ndlovu identified Moyo's body, leading to the arrest of her husband and one of his friends, Ngwenya.

Chief Mabhikwa confirmed the incident yesterday and appealed to members of the public to resolve their differences amicably.

"I can confirm that some kombi drivers attacked and killed a man in my area before dumping him on the roadside last week. I understand that the culprits are now in custody," said Chief Mabhikwa.

"I'd like to appeal to members of the public to avoid attacking one another whenever they have problems," he said.

Matabeleland North police spokesperson Inspector Siphiwe Makonese could not be reached for comment.
