EMGANWINI residents in Bulawayo are still to come to terms with the passing away of a teenage boy who died after drinking hot stuff in a drinking competition last week.

Norman Nkomo who is believed to have been in his late teens passed away after gulping almost the whole bottle of alcohol in a competition with his two other friends only identified as Mike and Thulani on Christmas day.

"Norman and his friends who were close to eight had been drinking a combination of opaque beer and hot stuff the whole day on Christmas while seated at home.

"They only left for the shops around 5pm as their 20 litre container of opaque beer was finished as well as their hot stuff," said a source.

It seems Norman and his friends were in a partying mood as they went on to buy a lot of liquor at the shops.

"When they arrived at a night club it was a bit dark but I could see that they were around eight or so. They purchased four 750m1 of brandy and went away.

"The following morning I learnt that Norman had passed on after drinking almost 750m1 of undiluted alcohol in a competition with a Mike and a Thulani whom I hear had only visited to spend Christmas with their friend," said another source.

While police could not be drawn into commenting on Nkomo's death, his uncle only identified as Nkomo, confirmed the incident and said they have already buried Norman in Kezi.

"It's an unfortunate incident that has befallen us and I am sure it's the will of the Lord. There is nothing we can do about it. What we can say is the boy should rest in peace as we have already buried him," he said in a telephone interview.
