A FORMER Form Four pupil committed suicide allegedly by hanging at his parents' home in Magwegwe North over yet to be disclosed reasons.

Simba Makumbe, 18, a former Form Four pupil at Sikhulile High School was found hanging yesterday at around 6AM by his father only identified as Makumbe.

The teenager was waiting for his Ordinary Level November 2014 examinations results.

A Chronicle news crew visited the Makumbes' house where mourners were gathered.

The boy's father, Makumbe, said he was still to establish the reason which drove his son to take his life.

He said Simba's death came as a shock to the family as he was in a jovial mood the previous day.

"I don't know what prompted my son to commit suicide. I'm actually in the dark. As a family, we never had a misunderstanding with Simba. These kids are unpredictable. I even asked his close friends whether they knew anything that could have upset their friend but they said they weren't aware of anything," said Makumbe.

He said he last saw his son on Monday evening only to find him hanging from a tree yesterday morning.

Said Makumbe: "I last saw Simba on Monday evening when I was coming from work. He went to his friends at around 10PM to ask for a cigarette and was given R2. While I was going to work at around 6AM, I was jolted to see his body hanging from a muzhanje tree in the yard."

He said his son was planning to pursue a Diesel and Plant Fitting course and had ambitions to join the Zimbabwe National Army.

Bulawayo Provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo could not be reached for comment as his phone was unreachable.

Three weeks ago, a 15-year-old boy from the same suburb, committed suicide by drinking a poisonous substance.

The boy had allegedly been dumped by his girlfriend.
