Bulawayo City Council has been applauded for being able to provide clean water compared to other councils in the country.
This was revealed by the Chairman for the Bulawayo United Residents Association (BURA), Mr Winos Dube during a press conference held recently in the city.
The Chairman stated that compared to other cities in the country, the council was atleaset to provide clean water from the taps.
"This is why we stood our ground as in 2007 against a government directive for ZINWA to take over the water distribution and purification in all cities.
"We are glad that Bulawayo was the only city hat was not taken over because we stood up as residents and said no we are happy with the way our council was purifying water, although the challenge of the availability of bulk water still remains," said Mr Dube.
Councilor Silas Chigora who was representing the Mayor also acknowledged that the city was happy that it was providing clean water.
"We are very happy that we are one of the few city councils that are able to provide clean water to its residents, If you have heard about what is happening in other city councils, you will realize that Bulawayo is maybe the only city in Zimbabwe that is providing clean reliable clean water.
However, speaking at the same occasion Bulawayo Progressive Residents Association (BUPRA) secretary, Mr Anglistone Sibanda, noted that although there was clean water more could be done in terms of the provision of water.
"The problem that we have here is that we a overtly centralized government where you cannot expect much from the local governance because there is a demy god of local governance sited in Harare in their office
The city council has to make decisions at his whims. Even if Bcc has money they have to go and beg Zinwa to construct dams or to implement the Gwayi Shangani project.
