Bulawayo residents have held a ceremony to "exorcise a spirit of death" along Khami Road where numerous fatal accidents have occurred.

The Bulawayo United Residents association led residents and churches from different denominations in song dance and prayer, at the spot near Trek Service Station in Mpopoma.

The chairperson of the Mpopoma Residents Association John Gasela said the spot had claimed too many lives and it was high time the spirit of death was removed.

He said it was good that scores of residents had turned up adding he thought it was a sign residents wanted death at the place to stop.

He said he hoped God would answer resident's prayers.

A resident who attended the event said he felt God would not respond positively because the organisers excluded traditionalists.

After almost one hour of prayer, the residents went to Gampu Government Primary School to hold another prayer for a pupil who was struck by lightning last month at the school.

They said they wanted to bind the spirit of death so that it does not revisit the school.
