War veterans turn on each other, official bashed

A member of the war veterans national executive was today assaulted by angry former freedom fighters in Bulawayo who accused him of trying to impose an interim executive.

Robert Ncube, the national war veterans treasurer had organised a meeting to announce members of the interim provincial structure following the dissolution of one led by Japhet Phuthi.

The war veterans however would have none of it and started hurling insults at Ncube.

Temperatures boiled until one veteran stood and charged at Ncube before throwing a punch at him.
Other veterans joined in and Ncube had to flee to safety.
