The transport situation in Bulawayo has improved following a crippling industrial action taken by commuter omnibus operators in the city's high density suburbs on Monday.

Thousands of people, including children were left stranded after commuter omnibus operators parked their vehicles alleging they are being harassed by police.

A survey by reporters in three suburbs Nketa, Nkulumane and Emganwini revealed business has returned to normal with commuter operators carrying people to their various destinations without any hassles.

Residents, however, feel the impasse between the operators and the police had negative effects on their day to day businesses.

They say all they want is a reliable transport system not to be used in power games between the operators and law enforcement authorities.

The commuter omnibus operators had parked their vehicles in protest over alleged harassment by the police.

They, however, say they decided to return to resume operations after the police reduced the number of roadblocks.

Bulawayo Urban Public Transport Association Secretary General Albert Ncube called for dialogue between the operators and the police before the implementation of any changes which affect their business.

The association also want the police and council authorities to deal with pirate taxis that are allegedly pushing registered commuter omnibus operators out of business.
