MDC-T youths in Bulawayo have vowed to assault Zanu-PF members who may try to disrupt programmes during party President Morgan Tsvangirai's four day visit to the city which starts today (Wednesday).
The youths yesterday said Zanu-PF youths had posed as vendors during Tsvangirai's visit to Gweru recently and had heckled him, thereby disrupting his meet the people tour.
"We are aware of their plans to also make a spectacle of the President on his meet the people tour in Bulawayo. We are ready for them and we will fight fire with fire and ensure they get the beating of a lifetime," said a youth who declined to be named.
Asked if the provincial leadership was aware of their plans, they said the leadership had warned them against violence.
"The leaders are too soft that is why the Zanu people take advantage and trample on us. They embarrass President Tsvangirai at every turn because they know we will just stand by and watch," said another youth.
Tsvangirai is expected to conduct a meet the people tour, meet the provincial executive council on their fallout with the provincial deputy chairperson Dorcas Sibanda.
Sibanda was suspended on Friday after allegedly threatening to form parallel structures if the province did not make her Bulawayo Chairperson.
She lost the chairperson race to Nomvula Mguni but claimed she was ousted by the executive when she had the support of people in the grassroots.
The position became temporarily vacant when incumbent Gift Banda was barred by a court from assuming office, after Matson Hlalo challenged his election to the post.
Hlalo claimed the elections were rigged.
