Zinara revenue not enough - Obert Mpofu

Transport and Infrastructure Development Minister today said revenue collected by Zinara is not enough to be distributed to all road authorities saying the funds are now being disbursed by a select committee.
Addressing a Road Authorities Planning and training workshop in Bulawayo, Mpofu said road authorities need to develop new strategies of mobilising resources.
"While ZINARA is mandated to collect revenue and disburse to all of you, it is important to note that the capital available for sharing amongst the road authorities is not always sufficient to adequately cater for all road authorities.
"Therefore, authorities need to develop strategies of mobilising resources from alternative revenue sources for road construction and maintenance," said Mpofu.
Mpofu said the establishment of the Disbursement Committee ‘will end all outcries from road authorities as far as disbursements are concerned".
The workshop is attended by various local authorities and runs under the theme "Development of infrastructural mechanisms as an investment by road authorities in line with Zim Asset".
Bulawayo Mayor, Martin Moyo said Zinara has announced an increase in excess of 300% for road maintenance allocations for 2015 to road authorities.
"With this in mind adequate planning and training is necessary in prioritisation of projects.
"Selection of appropriate intervention measures and achieving acceptable quality standards to ensure good use of the tax payers hard earned cash and improved service delivery," said Moyo.
