BULAWAYO - Some 11 members from the MDC led by Morgan Tsvangirai were yesterday left nursing serious injuries after some alleged police officers from the ZRP went on a rampage assaulting anyone in sight with baton sticks at the party's headquarters in Harare.

Tsvangirai confirmed the attacks yesterday in Bulawayo when he was addressing a press conference and said among those who were injured was his spokesperson Luke Tamborinyoka.

"As I speak Harvest House is under marauding by the police. The police are looking for a lost helmet. The have injured 11 staff members and this is a sad development.

"The incident is unlawful, unconstitutional and it marks the return of police brutality. This brutality should be condemned. The police have taken the law into their hands that is why I was saying the demon is back," said Tsvangirai adding that MDC T as party was not going to condone that.

This weary of sporadic attacks comes after some skirmish between the police and MDC T youth who were protesting in the capital city recently over the unclear disappearance of Itai Dzamara a journalist-cum activist.

He however rebuked ZANU Pf for presiding over a failed economy, saying the party has turned a once vibrant economy into a supermarket.

"The economy has been destroyed. There is nowhere an informalised economy can take a country forward. ZimAsset is dead, it is now used as a tool to grab natural resources rather than growing the economy," he said.

He said ZANU Pf has plunged the country in a crisis of legitimacy, economic and leadership.

Other MDC-T dignitaries who attended the press conference were National Organisation Secretary, Abhednico Bhebhe, Deputy Spokesperson, Thabitha Khumalo and Bulawayo Mayor.

Efforts to get an official comment from the police about the raid were futile.
