SUSPENDED acting MDC-T Bulawayo chairperson Dorcas Sibanda was allegedly attacked at her house on Thursday night by suspected members of the opposition party.
Sibanda, who is also Bulawayo Central National Assembly Member, yesterday confirmed the politically motivated incident but declined to give further details.
The legislator, who was not injured, said she reported the attack to the police.
"I was attacked and I've reported this to the police. I think we should allow them to do their work. I know the people who are behind all this and this is why I wasn't attending some of the meetings that were being held in the province. I knew their plans because I've people who come and tell me everything that transpires during their meetings," said Sibanda, without elaborating.
Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Mandlenkosi Moyo confirmed that Sibanda had made a report to the police.
The provincial police spokesperson said he was yet to get full details regarding the case.
The opposition party's Bulawayo province is embroiled in a leadership wrangle that saw the suspension of Sibanda a week ago.
Sibanda, who was suspended at a provincial executive meeting held at the party provincial headquarters for statements she allegedly made at a meeting held a week earlier, did not attend MDC-T rallies held in Bulawayo this week.
She is accused of having said she would run a parallel structure after she was blocked from acting as the provincial chairperson.
Sibanda was suspended ahead of a visit to the city this week by party leader Morgan Tsvangirai.
She is however insisting that she is still the acting provincial chairperson.
Bulawayo deputy mayor, Gift Banda, who had been voted as provincial chairperson in a chaos-riddled poll in the run up to MDC-T's 2014 congress, was forced to step down from the position following a High Court judgment.
Justice Martin Makonese of the Bulawayo High Court issued a default judgment in favour of Banda's rival, Martson Hlalo, who argued that Banda did not qualify to hold a senior post under the party membership rules.
At the time the verdict was issued, the MDC-T had already suspended Hlalo accusing him of engaging in acts of violence.
