A Sizinda man in Bulawayo quit his job after his boss handed him a mere $5 as salary saying the rest went to cover beer he had drunk during the month.
Elijah Kaunda was employed at a Bambelela bottle store in Emganwini.
"Whenever Kaunda was off duty and had no money for beer he would borrow $1 from friends for transport to his work place and then come back with lots of beer and whisky.
"I am sure his employers offered credit of some sort to their members.
"Kaunda must have done that a couple of times in January because when he went to collect his monthly dues he got paltry earning which forced him to resign,'.
His former boss, Castro Nleya confirmed that Kaunda quit.
"Yes Elijah used to work for us but I haven't seen him since January soon after getting his pay and I don't know the reason for his resignation as he only left without officialising his departure maybe he got a job somewhere else,".
According to B-Metro , Kaunda said the debt was not only for beer but other commodities.
